Why Inked exists
Most diligence still happens in twelve open tabs. One window estimates traffic. Another lists rounds. A third is Wayback. A fourth is a partner Slack thread that never becomes a document. By the time the memo is written, the meeting has already happened.
Inked is the desk where those fragments become one argument. We read the public web the way a growth analyst would — SEO, social, pricing, launch waves — then we write the capital layer: disclosed funding, thesis fit, risks, and founder questions. The output is a memo, not a dashboard you have to interpret twice.
The name is literal. When a company is inked, the thesis is written down, the sources are attached, and a partner can disagree with something specific.
What a 360° memo contains
Every full report is built from the same nine lenses. Sections return as they complete; a timeout still ships whatever is sourced.
Decision brief
What to copy, avoid, and validate first — a partner-ready verdict, not a data dump.
Capital & ownership
Disclosed rounds, valuation breadcrumbs, and how much of the story is already priced in.
Positioning & monetization
Who they sell to, how they capture value, and whether pricing is a moat or a leak.
Growth archaeology
Wayback inflections, launch waves, and the moment the site started selling differently.
Channels & demand
SEO, social, GitHub, community — what actually compounds versus what is fashionable.
Thesis, risk, questions
Strengths, risks, comparables, evidence, and the first-call questions grounded in the record above.
Who it is for
Inked is built for people who have to defend a yes or a no with more than a screenshot.
- Associates and principals who need a first pass before a founder call.
- Partners who want the argument on one page, with sources they can discount.
- Corporate development teams mapping a category without buying another seat of a traffic suite.
- Founders who want to see how a sophisticated buyer will read their public story.
It is not built for day trading, personal credit decisions, or anyone looking for a buy/sell rating. We do not issue those.
How the research is assembled
You paste a URL, a product description, or a deck. Inked fans out across public sources in parallel: the live site, archived versions, pricing pages, social and developer traces, disclosed funding, and market context. Numbers stay attached to a source class and a confidence label — high, medium, or low — so a partner can discount, not so the memo looks more certain than the web.
Where the public record is thin, we say so. We would rather leave a section incomplete than invent a series of facts. Sample memos on this site (Cursor, Linear, Stripe, Notion) are written examples of that standard, not live crawls of those companies’ private systems.
The first two full memos do not require a paid plan. Accounts exist so we can email a magic link and remember which reports you already ran — see Privacy for what that entails.
Principles we will not trade
-
Source before verdict
Every figure that looks like a fact should be traceable to a public class of evidence. If we cannot source it, it does not become a headline metric.
-
Write the argument
A score without questions is theater. The memo has to say what to ask next, or it is not finished.
-
Confidence is a feature
Labeling uncertainty is more useful than a false decimal. Medium confidence is an invitation to diligence, not a defect.
-
You own the decision
Inked is research infrastructure. You remain responsible for your capital, your compliance, and your decision.
What Inked is not
We are not a broker-dealer, a credit rating agency, or a substitute for counsel. We do not have non-public information, we do not scrape behind logins, and we do not promise that a memo is complete, current, or free of model error. Public-signal research only.
Using Inked does not create a client relationship. If you need regulated advice, hire someone who is licensed to give it. Our Terms spell out the legal version of that sentence.
